about us

Our mission is to change everyone's attitude towards plastics within one generation.

How much plastics do we contribute to the ocean
Around 8 million tonnes of plastic went into the ocean in 2010. Australia — which didn't rate in the top 20 polluters — contributed less than 0.01 million tonnes. But that still added up to 13,888 tonnes of litter per year, a quarter of which finds its way into waterways, according to study co-author Dr Chris Wilcox of CSIRO's Oceans and Atmosphere Flagship. With global production of plastic increasing exponentially, the amount of plastic finding its way into the ocean is likely to get much bigger.

Shopping bags
The reality is there is no perfect substitute for plastic checkout bags.

The 'bans' that we have seen so far means we won't see any single-use plastic shopping bags which is great, but we still use similar plastic shopping bags in a different form. In states where they have long banned plastic bags (e.g. South Australia), although businesses are not allowed to give out free single use shopping bags to their customers, they sell 're-usable' plastic bags at checkouts which are basically THICKER plastic bags. This unfortunately means MORE plastics in the environment per single use..

We didn't think that this was right, and granted, we know it's not a simple problem to solve. This is why we believe that we need to act to change this.

First, we believe that we need  to change the supply chains around packaging. Our shopping bags are made with certified degradable additives to ensure that they don't end up in our oceans in decades to come. With the proceeds, we will contribute towards reducing plastic waste activities such as beach and ocean clean-ups, supporting causes that raises awareness on the importance of this issue and funding researches to find a more sustainable alternative.

We want to do what we can in this generation to ensure that the products we use are sustainable and not have a damaging impact to the environment.
